I've been fascinated by Biltmore's grounds ever since I first saw the place in 1993, and was fortunate to be able to take the boys to all my favorite places when we were there for my birthday in July.
But this is the book I've needed all those years to tell the history of the site, from its initial siting, to the creation of the Approach Road to the various gardens, ponds and walks. A high point was that it had so much information about the approach road (which is really my favorite part) that I was able to identify features as we drove in each day.
The gardens have over a century of history to them now, and the book helped me understand what they are, and why. Great book. Of course I read it in the room in one evening so I could use it the next day - what else could I do?
