The Dig - John Preston

This is a fictional account of the Sutton Hoo excavations in England the summer of 1939, as war was imminent.  It's well-written and moderately interesting, but never went anywhere plotwise.  The book switched narrators four of five times, which provided an interesting way of seeing things, but, again, nothing really happened.
