I haven't written a post yet on Alvin Kernan's Crossing the Line about his service on carriers in the Pacific War, but it got me interested in two books I had never heard of before, Lt. Frederick Mears' Carrier Combat about his service on the original Hornet, and Delilah, a novel about life on a fictional Navy destroyer in the 1920's. The former was a seminal account for many Pacific War narratives, including Kernan's (although I had never heard of it) and the second was an extremely popular book about sailors during the war for its depiction of Navy life.
I looked both up on AbeBooks, and snagged a couple of copies to see how they read. Glad to have them in the library.
