Grayson has been lobbying for some time now for a weekly "Italian Night" where we cook Italian food as a family. Tonight we finally got around to it, with a dinner consisting of steaks from the grill, pasta (ziti and some leftover ravioli) with sauce, and bruschetta by Grayson. (Well sort of - he cuts the crusts off bread and toasts it while I actually make the bruschetta and cut the Parmesan shavings). Parker and Collin ate all their steak and got Hershey's ice cream cake, while Grayson and I started on a Mrs. Smith's peach cobbler (the boys picked out both desserts while shopping for dinner at Walmart). We are sort of working on table manners in preparation for our spring break trip so they don't look like a pack of apes. Tonight Collin tried to use my Order of the Holy Sepulchre ring to open a Dr. Pepper can so obviously we have a ways to go.
Wine was a 2009 Cakebread cabernet sauvignon - I'm trying to say goodbye to the backlog of Cakebread cabs (which I rarely drink) before we start packaging them up into gift baskets for community silent auctions, and this one is pleading for me to save it. I need to go taste it one more time ...
