Just about every day marks another milestone in getting the new offices up and running, but today was, well, another one. We hung the new "blade" sign out front, which matches the look our downtown director Bo Ellis is going for. It's a simple sign, but incorporates the historic Hub logo - and looks nice next to the old Hub (which gets a fresh coat of paint next week, by the way). And it's visible from either end of the block, street or sidewalk, which is important.
Meanwhile, inside on the 111 side Jim is making major progress on the shelving. 
He has uprights and shelves done on the right hand side (shelf edges need staining obviously), and uprights on the left side, and tonight we wrestled a set of original shelves that have been in the way for a year now up to serve as the core of the upstairs back wall shelves. Not surprisingly, they were precisely the right height and dimensions to match up with the upstairs shelves - after eighty years holding a pencil sharpener outside Louis Sr. & Kariel's office they are back where they belong lined up with the surviving shelves from the 1897 store. We will add on to them on each side to join the side shelves (although the door positions are new). For the first time, you can look at a picture of the current mezzanine and start to see a resemblance to the 1928 image (right) we are working so hard to copy. (I looked for the potted fan palms this morning - haven't found any yet).
Finally, one of the finds from the original store was a workbench 
(under the light in the photo) that we later realized was made from the bins from the 1897 store (lower right of photo to the right).
I have been wanting to use it as a stand-up desk, and tonight we found it its new home on the 111 side between the conference room and the atrium, under a picture of downtown Marshall from the old store. 
I was a little disappointed that it couldn't stay on the 113 side where it appears to have been continuously since 1897, but you have to put things where they fit and can be used, and this is where it fits!
