Last Saturday was a busy days for movies around the Smith house. We had just been to Target the night before and bought a few DVDs, so we spent most of the day watching them.
First up was one of my all-time favorites, Monty Python's Life of Brian, which was as hysterically funny as I recalled through most of it (except for the crucifixion scene, which I still don't find as funny as I do uncomfortable). The documentaries were limited, but good, and reinforced my impression that unlike Holy Grail, which was somewhat hit and miss (and had no ending, as opposed to a controversial one) the group was hitting on all cylinders here. The writing is terrific and the movie actually has a plot.
Next up was Kung Fu Panda, which we took all three boys to see. Good movie and they seemed to like it a lot.
Next up was Sky High in the purple room. I had been wanting to watch this, so we got it the night before and everyone went upstairs to watch it. Good movie - and not just because it had Kelly Preston in spandex.
Finally, Jamie was interested in watching National Treasure 2, and I was as well. The only version we could find was this regular DVD w/no extras. (I've pretty much stopped buying Blu-Ray disks due to the cost and the increasing uncertainty that my existing player will play them - has to be something I really want to see in hi-def to justify it). The movie itself was very enjoyable - the only thing I didn't like was the very poor quality of the transfer. The image quality was not very good, especially given that it had the benefit of a upconversion DVD player, and the sound was really poor - I can't recall the last time I saw an action movie like this that has such thin sound quality.
All in all, a very good day for movie-watching!
