While it's never fun to watch my Dallas Cowboys lose, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook showed he was a class act at the end of the game against Dallas Sunday. He broke loose for a 25-yard touchdown run in the last minutes – but instead of scoring, slid to take a knee at the 1-yard line. If Westbrook had scored, the Eagles could have had a 17-6 lead – but the Cowboys would have had a chance for a two-minute miracle comeback (as they did in Buffalo). By foregoing the personal glory of a touchdown against a rival team he probably isn't real fond of by taking a knee, Westbrook guaranteed a Philadelphia victory, because the Cowboys had no timeouts left, so the Eagles could run the clock out by taking knee after knee. (Westbrook says that teammmate Jon Runyan motioned for him to take a knee after he broke into the open, but Westbrook was the guy that forfeited the touchdown, so he gets the credit, with an honorable mention to Runyan).
As I said, I hate for Dallas to lose, but Westbrook's actions were the classiest thing I have seen on a football field in a long, long time. He put his team ahead of himself in the most public possible way.
