Yesterday I made a find in my grandmother's attic (where my mother lives). While going through a box half full of rat droppings looking for some things of my dad's, I ran across a box overflowing with large (approx. 2" x 4") negatives. When I got them home and moved into clean storage envelopes I discovered they were negatives of all of my grandmother's pictures from when she and my grandfather got married in 1928 or so to about 1959. She stopped keeping scrapbooks in the late 1960's, but I have all of their scrapbooks to then indexed and stored in my study, so I recognize a lot of these pictures - but not nearly all of them. This one - a two inch square copy of which has been on the den mantel in their house since 1951 - of my parents at their graduation from high school taken in front of my mother's house (where she still lives) has always been a favorite of mine. What I didn't know till now was that it was one of about ten pictures, of which I'd only seen about two. The others were probably given to other people so, for example, I never knew that taken at the same time was a picture of my dad with his mother. With the exception of the pictures I saw of her at Daddy's funeral, this picture is six years older than any I've ever seen of my grandmother. I also found three tiny color negatives taken at my aunt Lucy Ann's wedding a month earlier in April 1951, including this one of my grandparents (the smiling mother of the bride and somewhat shocked-looking father of the bride on the left).
