After the boys had "Space Day" last week, when we had some time last Sunday I talked all three into coming down and watching Apollo 13 in the theater room. I had not watched the "special edition" yet, and was curious how the alternate (IMAX) version was. Since it trimmed the movie down by twelve minutes (to 2 hours) and went to a narrower format, which would actually be a bigger image, I picked it. I didn't mind the cuts, but I wouldn't watch that version again, and I was very disappointed at the way the sound audibly dropped off during any louder sections (not till the end did I realize that I had somehow turned on the feature on the receiver that turns down louder sounding passages, which annoyed me immensely). But the boys really liked it, and all three (recall this is a seven year old and a pair of four year olds) stayed for the whole movie. Parker now carries around the first stage of Grayson's Saturn V rocket toy, so I think I'm making an impression!
