The day after the Amalfi tour we spent at sea on our way to Athens. That way the first day of art auctions, at which time we discovered that several of the artists were on board, and had numerous (very expensive) originals. I checked my e-mail for the first time on the ship, followed by a nap, and we went to the show after dinner (which was our first formal night).
November 13 - Athens
This was our third time in Athens, and we started with a short bus tour of downtown sites, follwed by a walk up the new pedestrian walkway to the Acropolis. We went through the museum on the Acropolis, and saw the new Acropolis museum under construction near its foot. We had lunch in Cathdral Square, then shopped for the Athena Parthenos statue I have been wanting, then went back to the ship and dinner.
November 14 - Kusadasi
Since we had already been to Ephesus, and there wasn't a tour that went to the Temple of Artemis (another wonder of the ancient world) we just rug-shopped, eventually buying two and a red leather jacket for Jamie. The ship sailed for Istanbul at 1 pm so we didn't have much time. We had a late lunch at the pizzeria.
November 15 - Istanbul
As a Byzantine history buff, this was really the highlight of the trip for me - unfortuanately all we had time for was half a day's sightseeing, so we did a tour of Topkapi Palace, then left the tour group to go through Hagia Sophia (Hagia Irene was closed) where we went up to the galleries to see the best of the mosaics. After we left St. Sophia went walked up Yerebatan Street to the bazaar. stoping for lunch upstairs at House of Medusa ( see www.medusarestaurant.com ). Afetr a couple of hours at the bazaar, at which I picked up a beautiful architectural rendering of Hagia Sophia, we walked up to the old Forum of Constantine, where we caught the bus back to the ship.
November 16 - Mykonos
We spent our 10th anniversary walking around the Greek island of Mykonos. We had a wonderful lunch at a waterfront cafe, where we saw Elvis, and then returned to the ship after buying an icon and a cross for the Christmas tree, We exchanged gifts at dinner and had a nice time with our friends at our table.
November 17 - Day at Sea
Our usual day at sea schedule - check e-mail, art auction, and wine tasting.
