I have had this album since the movie first came out in 1976 - I remember buying it in the Kroger shopping center in a long-gone record store. I have been waiting for years for the CD since I never recorded it to cassette, and thus haven't heard it in at least thirteen years, and likely much longer.
On hearing it now, I was a little disappointed. It's great to hear it in a good quality form, and it is good work, but (and I could be wrong here) it doesn't hit me as well as some other Barry work. The love theme and the ominous themes are outstanding, but the orchestrations are so simple compared to what we hear now (admittedly I listened to this right after Batman Begins, which is sort of like comparing lettuce to mole sauce) that it just sounds awfully thin by today's standards. Still, very glad to have it, and looking forward to adding it to the rotation in the study.
