One of the nicer features of the new house is the model workshop immediately off the study. It gives me a place to work on models (and leave them out while working on them) that's close to the study, where my research materials are, and where I can spread plans and blueprints out on the library table. The workshop is accessible through what Grayson calls the "magic door", a swinging bookcase. It's to the back of the first picture, on the left.
Once through the hidden door, here's what the workshop looks like. I have a workbench, a lighted display cabinet, and sink, and a 2' deep shelf running all the way around the room at 7' high, which gives five full feet of storage. Put another way, that's 128 square feet of shelving, and approximately 640 cubic feet of storage. Not counting cabinet storage. Or the display case. This also gives me wall space to hang my naval prints, since they don't seem to go anywhere else in the house.
