This year’s event will be held at the Marriott Town Center Hotel in Plano, Texas. The meeting will begin with a welcome reception on Wednesday evening, October 24, with the conference beginning early on Thursday, October 25 and concluding on Friday, October 26.
The program is shaping up to be outstanding. Thus far, Eric reports, we have commitments from Judge William Bryson of the Federal Circuit (and sometimes the Eastern District of Texas), and Judges Carl Stewart and Jennifer Elrod of the Fifth Circuit. As always, we expect most of the Eastern District of Texas judges to attend, including our new Chief Judge Leonard Davis and our two new judges in Marshall, Judge Rodney Gilstrap and Judge Roy Payne.
Our neighbors from the Northern District of Texas are also invited and several Northern District judges usually attend as well.
In addition to members of the judiciary, we are lining up a number of distinguished practitioners to speak on timely topics of interest to the bar, particularly with regard to intellectual property and criminal law matters. Our keynote speaker at the Thursday night Chief Judge & President’s Dinner will be Judge Ken Starr, president of Baylor University who will speak on what it's like to work with someone as famous as Robert Griffin III, and what it feels like to get up in the morning and decide that you need a new football stadium to match that Heisman trophy. Over 500 lawyers and judges attended last year’s conference, and we are expecting an equal number this year.
In addition to the welcoming reception on Wednesday evening, conference events will include two breakfasts, two luncheons, a golf outing, a VIP reception, the Chief Judge & President’s Dinner and the always-popular music and dancing after dinner party, with conversation in the Presidential Suite for those who prefer quiet conversation.
A limited number of event sponsorships are available at the $3,000 level and general conference sponsorships are available at the $1,500 level. Event sponsors are listed in program materials as general sponsors as well as on materials associated with the event being underwritten.
If you are interested in sponsoring this year’s conference or underwriting an event, contact Clyde Siebman, Conference Chairman at clydesiebman@siebman.com. Official registration materials will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead. They should arrive via email from the Clerk’s Office, but will also soon be available on the Eastern District of Texas Bar Association website, www.edtexbar.com.
We look forward to seeing everyone in Plano in October.
