One of our favorite - and most deserving - local charities here at the law office formerly known as the Hub is Court Appointed Special Avocates (CASA) of Harrison County, which trains volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS). It's been a tradition of ours to donate annually at Christmas the funds that we'd otherwise spend on gifts to clients and other friends of the firm to CASA, and once again, we suggest that firms consider identifying worthy causes at that time of the year (but not the one that sends me the glazed pecans - keep that up Andrew).
Fortunately now CASA has found a much more fun way to raise money. The 2nd Annual Black Gold Benefit supporting CASA of Harrison County will be held on November 12, 2010 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by R.E. & Martha Josey at Josey Ranch in Karnack, Texas. This year’s event features entertainment by Jerry Jeff Walker (last year was Neil McCoy, and he was the proverbial hoot), a silent auction (which with this many lawyers is not real silent, to say nothing of women screaming at each other to put that damn pen down!), a live auction, mechanical bull (and some live ones), a wine pull and dinner catered by the Blue Frog Grill. For more information or to purchase tickets interested parties can check out our website at www.blackgoldbenefit.com or call CASA of Harrison County 903-923-9224.
Remember - the money goes to a good cause, and if you can't be there, I can find people that will cover your share at the bar.
Hope to see you there!
